We began our wine tasting adventure in Willamette Valley with our friend Jay, and we ended our wine adventure with Jay. Three wineries in Dundee were on the schedule and all were unique and highly enjoyable.
Domaine Roy & Fils
The three of us enjoyed a sit down tasting at Domaine Roy. Andrea, our guide, gave us a quick tour through the vineyard and winemaking facility (while sipping on a little champagne) before we settled on the patio overlooking the vineyard. The tasting menu included one Chardonnay and three Pinot Noirs. The Incline and the Petite Incline were our choices for “best in show”.
Winemaker, Jesus Guillén, recommended several places for us to visit during our stay, and one of them was Cramoisi Vineyard. We weren’t sure what we were getting into when we drove up, because it looked like we had just driven into someone’s driveway by mistake. In actuality, this boutique wine label is so young that they don’t have their own winery or tasting room yet. So we followed the passionate owner, Sofia Torres McKay, out to the vineyard behind her house for a private tour and tasting.
The name, Cramoisi, was chosen by the owners because of the crimson (in French – cramoisi) flowers that spread throughout the vineyard in springtime. This was the first time any of us had ever been in a vineyard, with the owner, learning about how it all came to be. Sofia’s energy was full of genuine excitement about the whole process of winemaking from the vineyard practices to making sure the grapes were taken care of in transit to the winemaking facility.
She poured a lovely Rosé and three Pinot Noirs for us at a covered picnic table on the edge of the vineyard. Her and her husband’s vision is definitely coming to fruition and we all felt that even greater things are yet to come. Call for an appointment and enjoy the experience!
Our last stop of the day was Furioso’s newly renovated tasting room in the Dundee Hills. Lacey poured our flight for us and she was full of knowledge with an obvious passion for wine. The two Chardonnays and three Pinot Noirs were all excellent and we chose the La Linea Chardonnay and the Kalita Pinot Noir to take with us. Next time we are in the area, we will definitely visit Furioso again as we look forward to trying the next vintage.
